Located on Columbus road near the South Vernon Methodist Church, Columbia Elementary school provides students in grades k-5^th an education sensitive to each individual’s needs by employing innovative teaching tools. Older students are paired with younger “reading buddies” to build both reading and social skills. In an effort to reinforce daily curriculum, Columbia Elementary school recently added a web-based program, Study Island, which students and parents can access via the internet. Moreover, students enrolled at Columbia Elementary school learn to serve others through community involvement. Just this April, the fifth grade class at Columbia Elementary worked with the group Honor Flight to send veterans of WWII to the national memorial in Washington D.C.  Other Columbia Elementary service projects include fundraisers for Haitian earthquake relief, Jump Rope for Heart, Pennies for Patients, and donating dog food to the local animal rescue shelter. Along with the support of the local community, the Columbia Elementary school stresses compassion and the joy of learning upon its students.
